What the role entails

Reporting to the Fitness and Older Adult Coordinator, it is the role of a Fitness Instructor is to conduct a variety of fitness classes at a variety of locations in the Municipality and ensure the health and safety of all participants.  This includes preventing accidents, responding to emergency situations, and demonstrating strong public relation skills. 

Responsibilities

The following responsibilities and duties of this position includes but is not limited to:

• Conducting a variety of fitness classes at a variety of locations in the Municipality.
• Monitoring and reporting class attendance and participation.
• Ensuring the health and safety of all participants, including preventing accidents and responding to emergency situations, including administering first aid when required.
• Following all Municipal policies and procedures and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

• Current Fitness Leadership Training (OFC, CanFit Pro, YMCA, SFIC or equivalent) Fitness instructors are required to maintain appropriate certifications
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”
• Enthusiastic and self-motivated
• Strong public relations, customer service and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Must be legally able to work in Canada

What we offer you

We offer the following for this position:

• Rate of pay: $35.25 per hour (2023 rate).
• Hours of work: up to a maximum of 24 hours per week including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Successful candidates may be required to work at any location and will be required to work on a rotating schedule, including evening, weekends, and holidays.

Prior to starting the position, the successful candidate must provide, at their own expense, a current (within the last 180 days) satisfactory criminal reference check, with Vulnerable Sector Screening from a Canadian Police Information Centre. Applicants who have been employed with the Municipality within the last year and have provided a criminal reference check within the last 365 days are exempt from providing another criminal reference check. Successful candidates will be required to provide a CPIC every two years at their own cost.
